As summer comes to an end many of us have finished all of the binging and seen all of this summer’s blockbusters. Here is a list of watch-worthy content that will keep you entertained for the rest of the year!
The Dark Tower 8/4/17
The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel series about a Gunslinger, Roland (Idris Elba), as he ventures to stop the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey. Determined to stop the Man in Black from destroying the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. Good and Evil, Guns and Magic will collide to decide the fate of existence.
Marvel's The Defenders 8/18/17
Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) come together and form the a crime fighting team to save New York City from Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), the leader of the Hand, a ancient organization of mystical ninjas. The trailer also teases the appearance of the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). Finally get to see the heroes of the Netflix MCU interact together.
Death Note 8/25/17
This Netflix adaptation of the famous manga, follows a high school student named, Light Turner (Nat Wolff) who finds a Death Note (A supernatural notebook in which writing someone's name while picturing their face will cause that person to die.) Light becomes consumed with power and tries to use the Death Note to change the world. The most exciting part of the story is the mental chess match between Light and the detective 'L' (Keith Stanfield) as L attempts to stop Light. We are also excited to see the Death Gold, Ryuk (voiced by Willem Dafoe) come to life.
IT 9/8/17
The movie that spawned a generation of coulrophobic adults has received a modern day remake. This terrifying story of seven friends who come face-to-face with an evil shape shifter, who takes the form of a clown to target children made Pennywise an icon of horror. As with most remakes, the movie has BIG shoes to fill. As a horror fan I am looking forward to what Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove, Atomic Blonde) will bring to the role.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle 9/22/17
When the Kingsman headquarters is destroyed and the world is held hostage, two elite secret organizations must band together to save the world. The first movie was outstandingly low radar. With amazing performances by Colin Firth and Samuel A. Jackson coupled with the break out performance of Taron Egerton, the first movie had a good balance of action packed fun and James Bond-like espionage. Kingsman: The Golden circle is adding a star-studded cast (Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry to name a few) and bringing the action across to the US.
Stranger Things, Season 2 10/27/17
Probably the most anticipated series on this list! Stranger things Season 1 revolved around the strange disappearance of a child, dark government agencies, the Demogorgon and the mysterious Eleven. (Really trying to avoid spoilers but if you haven't seen Stranger Things yet, you're missing out!) After the events of Season 1, the audience was left with a lot of unanswered questions. Many of which we hope to have answered in Season 2. From the trailer, we can see that the gang will be facing a new threat from the "Upside Down". We also see the "Upside Down" still exists and the places where the "Upside Down" merges with our dimension merge are spreading.
Thor: Ragnarok 11/3/17
As we get closer to Infinity War the MCU is beginning to merge in the most amazing ways. From the trailer, we find that an imprisoned Thor finds himself in glorious gladiatorial combat with "a friend from work". Comic fans rejoiced at the hope of the Planet Hulk (even if just a piece of It) storyline. We all so get to see Hela (Cate Blanchett) destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.
Marvel's The Punisher 11/17/2017*
The only entry on the list without a confirmed Release date, the haunted Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is tormented by the loss of his wife and daughter and has vowed to punish the wicked. Bernthal's Punisher was amazing in Daredevil Season 2. The Punisher is gritty violent torment personified.
Justice League 11/17/17
Taking place after the events of Batman Vs. Superman, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) assembles the Iconic Justice League: Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Rey Fisher) to take on Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) and an army of Parademons.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi 12/15/17
Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey continues in the next chapter of the saga. The Internet has been buzzing with different theories as to who Rey really is. Hopefully we get some answers in The Last Jedi. After her meeting with Luke Skywalker at the end of the force awakens, we can only hope that the Last Jedi is foreboding that Luke will train Ray in the ways of the force.
